Assistant Teacher Position

For September 2022, Little Light is seeking a motivated professional that is passionate about 3 and 4 year olds to join our team in Flushing New York. Our mission is to empower children to be critical thinkers and creative problem solvers with strong social skills, so that they can succeed both throughout their educational career and in the wider world. Our educational program is based on the belief that children learn best with an environment that supports and respects each individual’s unique development.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist primary teacher with lesson planning and student tasks as set out in the lesson plans

  • Ability to maintain a professional attitude, appearance and work behavior

  • Friendly and nurturing disposition

  • Using different instructional strategies, as directed by the lead teacher, to meet individual student needs

  • Support students development and kindergarten readiness skills as defined by the New York Stare Prekindergarten Learning Indicators

  • Provide a welcoming, inclusive learning atmosphere for all students

  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work and communicate effectively and collaboratively with a diverse population

  • Assist with student assessment and input observations into Work Sampling System

  • Assist lead teacher in maintaining student records and work samples

  • Perform daily classroom setup and maintenance

  • Toileting accidents should be treated as a teachable moment for the every student

  • Assisting students with toileting accidents. Providing modeling, since we are a no touch school, to help remove students clothing, clean soiled area and get them dressed to be able to head back to their fun activities.

  • Routine cleaning is an important part of the classroom routines for example: toys, items used for teaching, hard surfaces such as tables, chairs and shelves in the classroom setting.

  • Arrive in a punctual manner to welcome early arrivals

  • Work with small groups of children to reinforce lesson

  • Being flexible with the lead teacher is important because it allows you to take advantage of any learning opportunities that pop up during the day.

  • Team player

  • Participate in Family Engagement once a month after school hours

  • Attend all staff meetings and trainings

Qualifications:

  • Experience with children in a licensed Educational Environment

  • A passion for Early Childhood Education and helping children grow in a positive way

  • High School Diploma; Bachelor’s degree a plus

Requirements

  • Must be legally allowed to work with children in NY State

  • CPR & First Aid certified - We can support you in this after hire

  • Comprehensive background check prior to beginning to work

  • Fingerprinted by Department of Education

Job Type: Full-time, 8 hour day

Pay: up to $30,000 per year
